Poetz, Marion
Marion Poetz is an Associate Professor of Innovation Management in the Department of Strategy and Innovation at Copenhagen Business School. She earned her PhD from WU Vienna and has been a visiting scholar at MIT Sloan School of Management, Bocconi University, and ETH Zürich. From 2017 to 2024, she served as Scientific Director of the LBG Open Innovation in Science Center, funded by the Austrian National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development.
Marion’s research centers on the strategy, management, and organization of open and collaborative science and innovation. Inspired by concepts such as open innovation, open science, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, her work explores inter- and transdisciplinary knowledge flows and collaborations in research and innovation projects, examining how and under what conditions these processes affect the quality and impact of their outcomes. Her research has been published in top international journals, including Management Science, Research Policy, and Harvard Business Review, and has been featured in international media outlets like Forbes and Inc. Magazine.
Beyond her research, Marion serves as an academic advisor, board member, and consultant to various organizations, including national and international firms, research institutions, and policymaking bodies. She founded the Institute for Innovation Capability Building, created the Lab for Open Innovation in Science (LOIS), and co-organizes the annual Open Innovation in Science Research Conference. Marion is a member of the Danish Research Unit for Industrial Dynamics (DRUID), the Academy of Management, and the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum.
