Freudenthaler, Laura

Laura Freudenthaler, born 1984 in Salzburg, is an Austrian writer living in Vienna. She studied German language and literature, philosophy and gender studies before publishing her first collection of short stories “Der Schädel der Madeleine” in 2014. Her first novel “Die Königin schweigt” was recognised the best German-language debut novel at the Festival du Premier Roman 2018 in Chambéry. Her second novel “Geistergeschichte” was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature for Austria in 2019; and in 2021 she was awarded with the 2021 Manuskripte-Preis which every two-year recognises the greatest hopes in German-language fiction writing.
